What is “ikigai management”? 
"ikigai management" is a sustainable management style that balances the ikigai of employees and the improvement of company performance.



A shift from an "optimal society'' where we live to satisfy our needs for recognition to an "autonomous society'' where we live to satisfy our self-actualization needs.
Another shift from "human resource management,'' which views human resources as a cost, to "human capital management,'' which views human resources as a source of value creation.

With recent social changes, it is becoming increasingly important to realize win-win relationships between companies, that support its employees' ikigai to improve business performance, and their employees, who belong to companies to enrich their ikigai.

By supporting employees to improve their ikigai, each individual will work with the intrinsic motivation that comes from within themselves, which will ultimately lead to improved company performance.

From an “optimized society” to an “autonomous society”

Up until now, the "optimization society'' has sought to maximize the production capacity of goods and services to satisfy people's safety and security, and has placed emphasis on efficiency as a "function'' of the whole. On the other hand, the emphasis on efficiency led to the deindividuation of employees.
The safety and security of people have been fully satisfied through increased efficiency in the "optimized society,'' and the modern world is transitioning to an "autonomous society.''
In the future "autonomous society," people will seek spiritual enrichment, and values that emphasize purpose in life and work will expand.
For companies to achieve sustainable management, it is essential to realize both "the company's purpose'' and "the way each employee wants to live their life.''



From “human resource management” to “human capital management”

In 2020, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry released the “Human Resources 
The report says it is important that shift from "human resource management," which aims to unify a company's purpose in a top-down manner, to "human capital management," which balances the realization of a company's purpose with employees' autonomous actions in line with their intrinsic motivation.

In April 2023, the Well-being Research Center at the University of Oxford announced that there is a positive correlation between employee wellbeing and company performance. The paper suggests that improving employee well-being may lead to improved corporate performance.

Effects of increasing the richness of ikigai on brain performance

Eudaimonia Universe conducted joint research with Professor Yoshinori Yamakawa of Kyoto University, an expert on BHQ (brain health status). *Paper writing in progress
The paper indicates that a positive correlation was confirmed between ikigai richness and brain health, and confirmed that it is important for management to support the improvement of employees' ikigai.
